The St. Louis Cardinals have reached an agreement with free-agent second baseman Mark Ellis on a one-year deal pending a physical. Ellis will likely serve as a right handed hitting compliment and insurance to Cardinals prospect Kolten Wong who is expected to be the Cardinals primary second baseman. Financial details were not released but Ellis made $5.25 million in 2013 with Los Angeles
Ellis hit .270/.323/.351 with 13 doubles, six homers and 48 RBI for the Dodgers last season. Wong hit .153/.194/.169 in 62 plate appearances last season withe Cards but hit .303/.369/.466 with 21 doubles and 10 homers in 107 Triple-A games.
The Dodgers were rumored in recent days to be interested in a return to Los Angeles for Ellis but signed Juan Uribe reducing further options for Ellis in the Dodger infield .
