Earlier today we reported the market for Mike Napoli was at it peak. Tonight Napoli made his decision and will re-sign with the Boston Red Sox on a two-year deal for $32 million.
The Red Sox agreed with Napoli last winter on a three-year deal that would have paid him $39 million , but the deal fell though because he was diagnosed with avascular necrosis in both of his hips during his physical.
With the deal today and the money earned in 2013 Napoli will end up with $45 million. Napoli is a proven run producer hitting .259/.360/.482 with 23 homers in 578 plate appearanaces for the Red Sox last season.
He turned down a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Red Sox earlier this winter and thus would’ve netted the club a compensation draft pick had he signed elsewhere.
Th Red Sox clearly recognize his value to the team and clubhouse making the deal a no-brainer.
