Washington Nationals Agree to One Year Deal With Ross Ohlendorf

Washington Nationals rumorsThe Washington Nationals have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with right-hander Ross Ohlendorf , thus avoiding salary arbitration.

Ohlendorf will likely be the long man out of the bullpen for the Nats in 2014, but could compete in spring training for the fifth spot in the Nationals rotation with Ross Detwiler.

Ohlendorf, 31, will also be eligible for arbitration again after this season. He served as a starter and a reliever after being called up in June in 2013.

Ohlendorf had a 3.28 ERA in 60 1/3 innings, and the Nationals went 6-1 in games he started.

With Ohlendorf signed the Nationals have seven players — Tyler ClippardIan Desmond, Detwiler,Wilson RamosStephen StrasburgDrew Storen and Jordan Zimmermann — who are arbitration-eligible.

The Nats agreed to a trade with the Detroit Tigers yesterday acquiring Doug Fister for utility infielder Steve Lombardozzi, setup reliever Ian Krol and pitching prospect Robbie Ray
