The Pittsburgh Pirates looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 1992 added another bat to their line-up acquiring Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau in a waiver trade according to multiple sources. Earlier this week, the Pirates acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck from the Mets.
Morneau has posted 221 home runs and 860 RBI over 11 years with the Twins
The Twins are getting outfielder Alex Presley and either cash or a player to be named later, according to a release from the team. Presley, 28, played in 29 games in the majors, hitting .264. He was most recently in AAA Louisville, hitting .298.
Morneau is a former American League MVP wining the honor in 2006 , but has suffered with injuries the last few years namely the aftereffects of a concussion. He will become a free agent after the season and the Twins has shown little interest in re-signing him.
