The Tampa Bay Rays have signed Delmon Young to a minor league deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The 27-year-old was released by the Phillies last week and will now return to the organization that selected him first overall in the 2003 draft.
Young played one full season in the major leagues with Tampa Bay before being traded to the Minnesota Twins in a trade that brought Matt Garza and Jason Bartlett to the Rays. He hit .261/.302/.397 in 291 plate appearances for the Phillies this season before being released.
Young will report to AA Montgomery where the assumption is he will play a few games before joining the Rays next week
The Rays also claimed claimed David DeJesus on revocable waivers from the Washington Nationals. The team will have until 1PM of Friday to strike a deal with Washington. DeJesus is owed $2.5 million for the remainder of 2013.
The Nationals acquired DeJesus on Monday and immediately placed him on revocable waivers. DeJesus is hitting .248/.328/.399.
