The Chicago White Sox have 48 hours to work out a trade for outfielder Alex Rios or pull him back after being claimed by the Texas Rangers. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported the claim. The White Sox acquired Rios in 2009 from the Toronto Blue Jays during the waiver period.
The two sides had multiple discussions before the non-waiver trade deadline but could not a agree on a deal. The White Sox were asking for Pitcher Martin Perez, Pitcher Luke Jackson and Infielder Rougned Odor – the Rangers were not interested in parting with those players for Rios.
Rios is hitting .277/.328/.421 fro Chicago this season and the team could let the claiming team assume his contract for nothing, although that scenario seems unlikely.
Rios is under team control through 2014 with a club option for 2015. He will make $12.5 million in 2014 and the club option is for $13.5 million. The Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates were both rumored to be interested Rios prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline
