Over 100 games into the season, the Phillies are seven games under .500, have fallen behind the Washington Nationals for second in the NL East and the closest route to the playoffs (the wildcard) is a 9.5 game deficit.

Only five teams have a worse record in the NL so the Phillies are prepared to try to shed some of its aging core in exchange for rebuilding a mostly desolate farm system.

With sunken cost in a player like Ryan Howard and $20 million commited to Roy Halladay coming off of a major injury next season, Philadelphia would do well to fold the rest of this season and make money off of numerous players in walk years.
