New York Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova struck out 11 Orioles in a spot start for Hiroki Kuroda and the Yankees rallied for two runs in the ninth inning against Baltimore Orioles closer Jim Johnson to win 3-2.
It was Johnson’s sixth blown save of the season and the Yankees fifth straight win.
Vernon Wells came through in the ninth-inning with a game-winning base hit with one out in the ninth to give the Yankees a walkoff win. Nova scattered three hits over nine innings, allowing two earned runs, one walk and struck out 11 on 102 pitches, 70 for strikes.
The Orioles scored two runs in the second inning on a Matt Wieters home run, but would get nothing more from their offense the rest of the way against the dominant Nova.
