Robby Hefflinger, Atlanta Braves prospect for the Class-A Lynchburg Hillcats, was named the MVP of the California-Carolina League All Star Game on Tuesday night, a 12-2 victory for the Carolina League over the California League at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, California (home of the San Jose Giants).
After winning the All Star Game home run derby, Hefflinger followed up with a 3-for-5 performance in Tuesday’s game, slugging a pair of doubles in the cleanup spot.
A seventh round draft pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft by the Braves out of Georgia Perimeter College, Hefflinger has played parts of three seasons at Lynchburg, wherein he is currently enjoying a breakout season for the Hillcats in 2013.
In 67 games this season, Hefflinger is batting .294 (75-for-255) with 18 home runs and 42 RBI, along with an OBP/SLG/OPS line of .345/.580/.926, displaying a powerful bat that can drive the ball to all fields.
The Carolina League lineup was comprised of a core of rising top prospect talent, including the likes of Garin Cecchini, Francisco Lindor, Blake Swihart, and 2012 first-round draft pick Tyler Naquin.
