Melky Cabrera had a three hit night against Nick Tepesch and the Texas Rangers, and the Toronto Blue Jays won 6-1. Cabrera’s first hit of the night catapulted the Blue Jays’ offense when he tied the game at 1-1 with a home run. By the time the outfielder added his third hit, it was an RBI single putting the game out of reach at 6-1 in the 7th inning.
Cabrera finished with half of his team’s hits and one short of the entire Texas lineup, in a game dominated by Tepesch and Toronto starter, Esmil Rogers until the 6th inning.
Tepesch gave up all four runs in the Blue Jay sixth which blew the game open, and Rogers lasted just four innings, but gave up only three hits and surrendering the lone run. Rogers also recorded six strikeouts before being pulled at 73 pitches.
The Blue Jays’ bullpen combined to shut the door for the other five innings, using four relievers to combine for just one hit against and seven strikeouts.
Cabrera now has three home runs and 22 RBI on the year, raising his season batting average to .288. The Blue Jays remain in last place in the AL East with a record of 26-34 while the struggling Rangers have slipped into second place in the AL West with a 36-24 posting behind the Oakland Athletics.
