Matt Joyce and James Loney homered to back up the young right-hander. Fernando Rodney pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save in 16 opportunities.

Taking a 3-1 lead into the eighth the Marlins closed the gap on a bases loaded walk issued by Josh Lueke.

After recording the final out of the inning, Ben Zobrist‘s two-run double in the ninth gave the Rays some breathing room and Rodney pitched a perfect ninth

Colome is a product the Rays Dominican Republic baseball academy and is the nephew of former Rays reliever Jesus Colome.
