In a game that saw little offense from either team, the Colorado Rockies would edge the Houston Astros in the ninth inning on a Michael Cuddyer RBI single, cementing a 2-1 victory.
Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa and Astros starter Jordan Lyles each had solid outings for their respective clubs on the afternoon. De La Rosa pitched seven innings, surrendering one run on five hits, striking out four batters and walking two.
Lyles also went seven innings, surrendering just one run on six hits, striking out three batters and walking three. The two starters each reached 110 pitches in their outings, season highs for both hurlers.
Leading off the ninth, Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki doubled to deep center field and would later reach third base on a wild pitch by Houston reliever Jose Veras with Michael Cuddyer at the plate.
Cuddyer would single to left field, scoring Tulowitzki and giving the Rockies a go ahead 2-1 lead.
Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt entered in the bottom of the ninth inning, closing out the game and earning his 11th save of the season.
With the victory, Colorado improved to a 28-24 record on the season, moving within two games of the NL West division leading Arizona Diamondbacks.
