Boston Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz will miss his scheduled start on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies after feeling discomfort in his collarbone. Alfredo Aceves will start in his place. Buchholz claims he slept wrong causing the pain after the team returned from Chicago on Wednesday.
Buchholz said that he could pitch if he had to, but for precautionary reasons chose to skip his turn. He is expected to make his start later in the week.
Buchholz Is 7-0 with a league-leading 1.73 ERA in 2013. Buchholz claims the decision to skip the start was his call.
“The night we got back from the road trip, just got in bed and had the little girl with me and I feel asleep like this [with her crooked in his arm] instead of on my back like I usually do,” Buchholz said. “When I woke up the next morning it felt a little tight.
The Red Sox share the top spot in the American League East with the New York Yankees with a 31-20 record.
