Matt Moore Improves to 8-0 As Rays Sweep Orioles

Rays NewsMatt Moore scattered five hits over seven innings Luke Scott and Matt Joyce homered to lead the rays to a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles.  Moore’s record improved to a Major League-leading 8-0. Tampa Bay Completed a three-game sweep of the Orioles and now move on to a series with the Blue Jays in Toronto

The win was the Rays  ninth in 11 games moving them three games over 500 for the first time this season  and into a tie for third place with the Orioles in the American League East.

Chris Tillman (3-2) allowed three runs and five hits in six innings  for Baltimore.

The game had a moment of controversy  in the sixth inning. Tampa Bay led 2-1 in the sixth inning when Matt Joyce hit a drive that appeared to bounce off the wall near the right-field foul pole. First base umpire Dan Iassogna called it a fair ball but not a home run.

Thats led to Orioles manager Buck Showalter arguing that it was a foul ball and Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon contendingit was a home run. After a lengthy meeting, the umpires adjourned to watch a replay and returned with their decision: home run.

Joel Peralta pitched a perfect eight inning and Fernando Rodney bounced back from a horrific outing his last time out against the Red Sox on Thursday to earn his eighth save of the season.
