The Los Angeles Angels outlasted the Chicago White Sox in an offensive slug-fest, highlighted by a five-run seventh-inning that would seal a 12-9 victory for the Angels on Saturday afternoon.
Los Angeles third baseman Alberto Callaspo would spark the seventh-inning rally with a two-out three-run home run to left field off of Chicago reliever Donnie Veal. J.B. Shuck would finish off the rally with a two-run double to deep center field, scoring both Josh Hamilton and Chris Iannetta.
Despite a five-run rally in the top of the eighth-inning led by a Hector Gimenez three-run homer to counter the seventh-inning breakthrough by the Angels, the White Sox would fall short.
Coello came into the game in relief of Joe Blanton in the top of the fifth-inning, facing a one out, bases loaded situation. Coello worked brilliantly, striking out Alexei Ramirez and Alex Rios swinging to end the inning and relieving the Angels of any further damage.
Coello would work an additional inning, striking out Conor Gillaspie to end the sixth-inning. Ernesto Frieri would close out the game, striking out the side in the ninth-inning and cementing a hard-earned 12-9 victory.
The Angels improved to 16-27 on the season, though they still sit 11.5 games behind the AL West leading Texas Rangers.
