Adam Wainwright lost a no-hitter In the eighth inning when Nolan Arenado singled with one out, then went on to finish with a two-hit shutout over the Colorado Rockies 3-0.
Wainwright has six career shutouts. Wainwright struck out seven and walked one. Shelby Miller one hit the Rockies last night. Wainwright teamed with starter Miller to retire 40 successive batters in the first two games of the three-game set.
Dexter Fowler singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to add the Rockies second hit of the afternoon. Carlos Gonzalez then followed with a slow roller to second base to preserve the shutout. Wainwright threw 120 pitches.
