Heath Bell will take over responsibilities for the Arizona Diamondbacks while J.J. Putz is out with a stiff elbow. Putz left Tuesday’s game after facing one batter and posing for pictures. He complained afterwards that he felt something in his elbow after the second pitch he threw.
“Just felt stiff in my elbow and zings down my fingers and I knew something wasn’t right,” said Putz. “The hardest thing is not knowing what it is. We are going to go see the doctor tomorrow and figure out what it is.”
Bell finished the game and recorded the save.
Fantasy Play: While many thought David Hernandez would be in line to pick up the saves for Arizona Bell was named the closer until Putz is healthy again. Bell is sporting a 4.73 ERA and has given up 16 hits in just over 13 innings of work, so be advised there is some risk, but for now he will get the lion share of the save opportunities for the Diamondbacks. Bell should available in almost all league formats and systems, owned by just 7% of fantasy owners at ESPN. Should he falter Hernandez will be waiting in the wings.
