The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff took yet another hit with the loss of Chad Billingsley to the disabled list earlier today. With Zack Greinke and Chris Capuano already on the disabled list and Ted Lilly scheduled to join the Dodgers rotation next week, could the Dodgers be tempted to consider bringing up Double-A prospect Zach Lee?
Lee was selected 28th overall in the 2010 Draft and signed with the Dodgers after turning down a two-sport commitment at Louisiana State. He split last season between Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga and Chattanooga, finishing 6-6 with a 4.39 ERA in 25 starts. He is ranked the #87 prospect Baseball Prospectus top 101 prospects list.
Lee pitched seven innings and allowed one run on five hits and a walk to lead the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts to a 6-2 victory over the Tennessee Smokies last night. In two starts this season, he’s allowed a pair of runs while striking out a dozen over 11 innings.
Lee, 21, has never pitched at the AAA level and has only 17 starts at the AA level, so a major league call up seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Remember when the Dodgers has prospects Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa in the system?
