In his career David Price had never loss to the Cleveland Indians. Before Sunday, Indians starter Justin Masterson was 1-7 with a 7.74 ERA against Tampa Bay. On paper a Tampa Bay victory seem to be the odds on favorite, but after being shut out the prior two games in the series Cleveland came out swinging and beat Tampa Bay 13-0. Price had his worst day in the major leagues statistically, allowing eight earned runs and 10 hits in five innings of work.
After two starts, Price is 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA and has allowed 22 baserunners (17 hits, five walks) in 11 innings. Mark Reynolds and Lonnie Chisenhall hit three-run homers off Price “I’m fighting myself right now,” said Price, who did not allow a three-run homer in 2012. “It’s tough, for as good as I feel out there on the mound to go out there and be my own worst enemy. I’ve got to get out of my own way and just throw the ball. … I’m just fighting myself right now, my delivery.” Carlos Santana went 5-for-5 with a home run and three RBI for Cleveland.
Masterson was masterful for the Indians allowing just two hits in seven innings of work. Ben Zobrist Had both hits. Tampa Bay will now embark on a road trip with stops in Texas, Boston and Baltimore. The Rays will play 20 of their next 26 games away from Tropicana Field.
Rays News and Notes: Wil Myers is off to a 4-for-12 start at Triple-A Durham and has struck out four times. Jeff Niemann will have his right shoulder re-evaluated on Monday.
