Brian Roberts Will Miss 2-4 weeks with Ruptured Knee Tendon

Orioles newsBrian Roberts who injured his knee while trying to steal second base in the ninth inning yesterday in a game with Tampa Bay is expected to miss 2 to 4 weeks with a ruptured tendon in the back of his right knee. Roberts has battled injuries over the past few seasons having played 17 games in 2012, 39 games in 2011 and 59 games in 2010.

Roberts said after the game he heard a pop behind  his knee.  Roberts was helped off the field noticeably favoring his right leg.

Roberts was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Infielder Yamaico Navarro was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to take Roberts’ place on the 25-man roster. Orioles utility man Ryan Flaherty is starting today’s home opener  for the Orioles. Veteran middle infielder Alexi Casilla and Navarro can also fill in at second base for Roberts.
