Detroit Tigers Legend Virgil Trucks Passes At 95 Years Of Age

The Detroit Tigers lost another one of their own Saturday night when legendary pitcher Virgil Trucks passed with what was believed to be pneumonia.

Trucks, who lived to the ripe old age of 95, was famous for throwing two no-hitters during the 1952 season. Despite the quality of pitchers the Tigers have had since then, only current Tiger Justin Verlander has matched the number of no-hitters thrown in a Detroit uniform.

Having played for five teams in his 17-year career, he also pitched for the White Sox, Kansas City A’s, Yankees and St. Louis Browns.Trucks finished his illustrious career with 177 wins to go with a sub-3.50 earned run average, 3.39 to be exact.

Until his dying day, Virgil kept in touch with the Tigers ballclub. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ann. He also had five children and seven grandchildren.

According to his daughter Carolyn, her father used to claim that, “He pitched for the Detroit Tigers and four other clubs.”

Virgil, you will definitely be missed.
