Detroit Tigers left fielder Andy Dirks remains sidelined with a swollen right knee which he injured Tuesday while playing at Joker Marchant Stadium. Tigers management is hopeful Dirks will be able to get back onto the field within the next few days. Whether that will happen or not though remains to be seen.
With the weather in Detroit being well below its normal temperature for this time of year, it is not a good time to have both of its primary cogs for their left field platoon in Dirks (lefty) and Avisail Garcia (righty) to be suffering from injuries. With the return of Rule-5 pick Jeff Kobernus to the Washington Nationals today, who also had hoped to be a part of the left field solution, the Tigers are relying on Matt Tuiasosopo‘s hot spring to translate into a solid contributor when the team heads north later this week.
Dirks, who hit a very respectable .322 in 314 at bats last year has had a history of recovering slowly from injuries, which is a big reason Tigers management was wanting to platoon the young outfielder in the first place this season.
