The Arizona Diamondbacks have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Aaron Hill according to Buster Olney of ESPN. The deal is reportedly for three years and $35 million and is expected to be formally announced later today. Hill hit .302/.360/.522 with 26 home runs, 85 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 156 games last season.
Hill was set to earn $5.5 million in the final year of a two-year, $11 million deal he signed last off-season. The Diamondbacks have had preliminary discussions about a contract extension with Hill earlier this off-season
The Diamondbacks have been very active this offseason, in the trade market, free-agent market and signing players to contract extensions. Last month Arizona reached an agreement on an extension with Martin Prado who came to the Diamondbacks in the trade that sent outfielder Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves.
J.J. Putz was signed to an extension in January. Eric Chavez and Brandon McCarthy each reached agreements in December, and Cody Ross reached an agreement on a three-year deal. The team also signed a shortstop Cliff Pennington on a two-year deal. The Diamondbacks begin spring training Feb 11.
