It’s probably not the worst kept secret ever, but it’s close. Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig in a news conference with Cincinnati Reds president and CEO Bob Castellini announced that the 2015 All-Star game will be played at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. The All-Star game has been played in Cincinnati previously four times, including two games at Riverfront Stadium in two games at Crosley Field.
Great American Ballpark opened in 2003 and seats more than 42,000. It has been the hope of Castellini and the Reds to bring the All-Star game to Cincinnati since his group acquired the club in 2006. Great American Ballpark and Cincinnati will also host the Home Run Derby, MLB All-Star Futures game and Fan Fest during All-Star week.
Riverfront Stadium was the site of one of the most historic All-Star moments in history, when Pete Rose toppled catcher Ray Fosse of the Cleveland Indians to score the winning run in a 5-4 nationally when in 12 innings. The 2013 All-Star game will be played at Citi Field in New York and in 2014 the game will be played at target Field in Minneapolis. Can you name the player depicted in the statue in the picture above?
