Vogelsong shuts down Cardinals

Angel Pagan  went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored and Ryan Vogelsong pitched seven innings of one run ball, scattering four hits and striking out four, while walking two and the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1.

Chris Carpenter pitched four innings allowing five runs, two earned and struck out one. Carpenter’s throwing error in the fourth inning led to a run scored.  Later in the inning, Marcos Scutaro singled to score Gregor Blanco and Brandon Crawford. Pagan scored on an error by left fielder Matt Holliday

Scutaro was removed from the game in the sixth inning with a left hip injury. He was replaced by Ryan Theriot. Holliday took out the Giants second baseman by sliding over second base and into Scutaro’s legs. Scutaro has been diagnosed with a left hip injury and will undergo X-rays. Theriot singled in the eighth-inning to score  Blanco and Aubrey Huff and add insurance runs to make the score 7-1.

Game three will be played on Wednesday with the Giants sending Matt Cain to the mound against Kyle Lohse for St. Louis. Tim Lincecum will face Adam Wainwright in game four on Thursday.
