Posey’s 4 RBI lead Giants to NLCS
The San Francisco Giants scored six runs in the fifth inning including a grand slam by Buster Posey to beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 in game five of the National League Division Series. Matt Cain pitched into the sixth inning allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out five. He walked two batters.
Cincinnati starter Mat Latos this 4 1/3 innings giving up six runs, five earned and suffered the loss. Brandon Phillips had two RBI’s and Ryan Ludwick homered in the sixth to account for all the scoring for Cincinnati. The Giants now await the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals – Washington Nationals Division Series. The Giants rallied from a 2-0 series deficit to earn a berth in the National League Championship Series.
The Reds put two men on with one out in the ninth inning, and Ludwick had an RBI single to left field to make the score 6-4. Jay Bruce then flied out to left field after a 12 pitch at-bat. Sergio Romo then struck out Scott Rolen to end the game.
