Francona on Indians shortlist
When the Cleveland Indians fired manager Manny Acta with six days left in the season, bench coach Sally Alomar Jr. was viewed as the favorite to get the job as the new Indian skipper. However, former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona has emerged as a strong candidate for the job. Peter Gammons reported there is mutual interest between Francona in the Indians
According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com Francona has indeed spoken with Indians manager Chris Antonetti about the job and an interview has been agreed to by the two parties at some point.
Francona has worked as an analyst for ESPN since being fired as manager of the Red Sox last fall. Francona worked for the team as a special assistant in 2001, and has relationships with Cleveland team president Mark Shapiro and GM Antonetti.
