Chipper Jones home run completes Braves come back

Philadelphia 7 – Atlanta 8 –  Atlanta Braves scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to stun the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7. Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon with two outs in the ninth inning  to complete the comeback. Cole Hamels pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs while striking out six for the Phillies. Eric Kratz had three RBI and Ryan Howard had two RBI for Philadelphia

Strasburg delivers six scoreless for Washington

St. Louis 3 – Washington 4Stephen Strasburg pitched six scoreless innings striking out nine and the Washington nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3. Kurt Suzuki in his second home run for Washington in the fourth inning off of St. Louis starter Jake Westbrook. Westbrook pitched into the sixth inning allowing two earned runs and striking out six. Daniel Descalso hit a two-run homer the Cardinals.

Jason Bay slams Marlins

New York 5 – Miami 1Jason Bay hit a grand slam, and the New York Mets beat back the Miami Marlins 5-1. Chris Young allowed one run and five hits over five innings of work striking out three and walking one. Mark Buehrle pitched seven innings and allowed five earned runs and struck out three in the loss. Justin Ruggiano had the Marlins only RBI.

Gonzalez leads Dodgers to walkoff win

Arizona 4 – Los Angeles 5Adrian Gonzalez hit a walkoff two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Dodgers over the Diamondbacks 5-4. John McDonald and Miguel Montero homered for Arizona. Matt Kemp hit  his 18th home run of the season in the second inning for Los Angeles

Padres Headley’s  six RBIs not enough

San Diego 10  – Colorado 11Chris Nelson hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres despite a career-best six RBI by Chase Headley.  Tyler Colvin and Ramon Hernandez also homered and Dexter Fowler had three hits and two RBIs  for Colorado

Giants score late to beat Cubs

San Francisco 7  – Chicago 5Matt Cain allowed five runs on six hits in five innings of work, striking out two and walking to. Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run homer off Cain in a losing effort for the Cubs. Angel Pagan went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI,

Brewers use 4 home runs to down Pirates

Pittsburgh 8  – Milwaukee 12 –  Ryan BraunJeff BianchiRickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez hit home runs for Milwaukee and the Brewers beat the Pirates in a slugfest 12-8 . Garrett JonesMichael McKenry and Gaby Sanchez.  Pirates starter James McDonald was touched for eight runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings of work, he struck out six but allowed four home runs.

Jay Bruce leads Reds over Astros

Cincinnati 5  – Houston 3Jay Bruce and a three-run home run in a five-run eighth-inning for Cincinnati in the Reds beat the Astros 5-3.  Bronson Arroyo pitched six innings allowing just one earned run and three hits in a no decision. Aroldis Chapman  pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his 34th save of the season
