The Pittsburgh Pirates released struggling left-hander Erik Bedard. Bedard signed a $4.5 million deal with the Pirates in December and is 7- 14 with a 5.01 ERA this year.
Bedard went 4-1 in May, and since that time his production has steadily declined.
In his last outing against Milwaukee, Bedard gave up six runs on six hits and walked two in a 7-0 loss. Bedard is 63-64 with a 3.85 ERA over the course of eight major league seasons.
The Pirates have lost 13 of their last 18 games, and while the team has not named a replacement, it is expected that Kevin Correia would be in line for the spot in the rotation with Jeff Karstens (2.81 ERA) ,A.J. Burnett (3.96) Wandy Rodriguez (4.86) and James McDonald (6.49) .
