AL Recaps – Rays Move Closer to Yankees With Win over Kansas City

Rays NewsKansas City 1  – Tampa Bay 5  – Jeremy Hellickson cruised through seven innings allowing one run on six hits to lead Tampa Bay to a 5-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals. J.P. Howell and Kyle Farnsworth finished at the eighth and ninth innings respectively

Desmond Jennings had two hits and RBI for Tampa Bay.

Jeff Keppinger hit his sixth home run of the season for the Rays. Alex Gordon had two hits for the Royals. The victory was the fifth in a row for Tampa Bay since the perfect game of Felix Hernandez in Seattle. 

Tampa Bay was playing at home for the first time in 10 games, having recently swept the Los Angeles Angels four games in Anaheim

Baltimore 5 – Texas 1Ryan Dempster  pitched eight strong innings for the Texas Rangers  while striking out six and walking two to lead the Rangers to 5-1 victory over Baltimore. David Murphy had two RBI and two hits for Texas. Adam Jones drove in the only Orioles run. Miguel Gonzalez pitched five innings, but allowed four runs for the Orioles.

New York 6   – Chicago 9 – Alexei Ramirez run homer in the seventh inning and Adam Dunn hit his 36th  home run in the eighth  and the White Sox rallied to beat New York Yankees 9-6, Derek Jeter had four hits a home run for New York. Freddy Garcia gave up five runs on six hits, and four walks in 4 1/3 innings of work. Gavin Floyd gave up three runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings for Chicago.

Minnesota 7 – Oakland 2 –  Josh Willingham and Joe Mauer had two RBIs each as the Twins beat the Oakland Athletics 7-2

Cleveland 3  – Seattle 5 – Michael Saunders hit two two-run home runs and Eric Thames added a solo shot to lead the Mariners by the Indians 5-3 . Tom Wilhelmsen picked up his 18th save of the year. Jason Kipnis hit his 12th home run of the year and had two RBI for the Indians
