NL Recaps – Reds, Cubs Split Doubleheader

Cincinnati Reds NewsChicago 9 – Cincinnati 7 – Rookie Brett Jackson hit his first career home run, Starlin Castro had three hits and two RBI, and David DeJesus hit his fifth home run to back the pitching of Brooks Raley to be the Reds 9-7. Ryan Ludwick hit two home runs for the Reds in a losing effort

Chicago 3 – Cincinnati 5 Johnny Cueto turned in eight strong innings for the Reds and Todd Frazier hit a go-ahead home run and the Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 . Jeff Samardzija lost his 11th game of the season allowing four earned runs in five innings of work. Alfonso Soriano hit his 22nd home run of the year.

Philadelphia 4 – Milwaukee 3Cole Hamels allowed three earned runs in 7 2/3 innings of work, eight hits and struck out 10 to lead the Phillies. Ryan Braunhit his 33rd home run of the season. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 27th save for the Phillies

Los Angeles 6 – Atlanta 2 –  Hanley Ramirez hit two home runs and had four RBI to lead the Dodgers to a 6-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Ben Sheets allowed six runs over six innings on four hits. He allowed four home runs including a blast from James Loney in the second inning.

New York 2 – Washington 0Ike Davis hit a two-run homer and John Niese pitched into the eighth inning to beat the Washington Natinals 2-0. Nationals starter Edwin Jackson struck out 10 and allowed one hit through six innings of work.

Arizona 12 – Houston 4 – Chris Young had four hits and Aaron Hill hit a three run home run and the Diamondbacks beat the Astros 12-4.  Justin Upton added two hits for Arizona and Ryan Wheeler hit his first major league home run.

Pittsburgh 4 – St. Louis 5 –  Yadier Molinahad three hits and two RBI to lead the Cardinals to a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Erik Bedard lost his 13th game of the year allowing five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work

San Francisco 8 – San Diego 5Buster Posey had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI, Joaquin Arias had three hits and three RBI including a home run to lead a 14 hit attack and the San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres 8-5

Miami 6 – Colorado 3 –  Giancarlo Stanton hit his 24th home run of the year and the Marlins hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 6-5.  Dexter Fowler had two hits and two runs scored for Colorado, Tyler Colvin drove in three runs with three hits
