Atlanta – Ben Sheets pitched into the eighth inning and Jason Heyward backed up that pitching with a home run in the Atlanta Braves cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia starterVance Worley allowed four runs over just 3 2/3 innings.
Sheets isn’t striking out batters the way he once did, averaging less than a strikeout per game, but has a sparkling 1.13 ERA in five starts this year for the Braves. “You can really tell the experience when he’s on the mound,” Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “He just keeps on giving us good outings.”
Freddie Freeman drove in two runs, Brian McCann went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Dan Uggla had a pair of hits for the Braves

San Francisco 2 – St. Louis 8 – Matt Cain gave up five runs over 5 2/3 innings, including eight hits a homerun. Jon Jay was four for four with two RBI for the Cardinals, and Jake Westbrook allowed just two runs over six innings of work on seven hits
Chicago 0 – San Diego 2 – Eric Stults scattered five hits over 5 1/3 innings and combined with Brad Brach, Dale Thayer, Luke Gregerson and Huston Street for a shutout. Rookie Brett Jackson struck out four times
Colorado 2 – Los Angeles 0 – Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-5 and scored both Rockies runs. Dodgers lefty Chris Capuano (10-8) allowed two runs and nine hits in seven innings and struck out seven.
