The Chicago White Sox went looking for starting pitching help, and were in the mix to land Zack Greinke before he was dealt to the Los Angeles Angels.
Instead, the White Sox traded infielder Eduardo Escobar and left-hander Pedro Hernandez to the Minnesota Twins for Francisco Liriano.
Liriano is eligible for free agency after the season and is owed approximately $2.1 million this year.
Liriano is another pitcher off the market, and had drawn interest from several teams, including the Cardinals and the Orioles.
Escobar is batting just .207/.281/.276 in 36 major league games
Hernandez is pitching to a 2.94 ERA and 5.7 K/9. Both Hernandez and Escobar have been assigned to Triple-A Rochester.
