The New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez suffered a non-displaced fracture in his hand after being hit by a pitch from Seattle Mariners RHP Felix Hernandez and will be placed on the disabled list.
Rodriguez appeared to be in serious pain has rolled around on the ground,after being hit by the pitch. “It’s difficult,” Rodriguez said. “Tough break. I never thought fracture, but it was. It’s a tough blow. Tough blow.”
Rodriguez is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the team will have to adjust. “It’s non-displaced, which is good,” Girardi said. “But we’re going to have to make some changes, which is too bad, because Alex was just starting to feel good again.”
A-Rod is batting .276 with 15 home runs and 44 RBI. Eric Chavez expected to take over at third base for the time being. “It’s a huge loss,” Yankees infielder Eric Chavez said. “Al is so important to our team. This is definitely going to hurt.”
The Yankees are in the middle of a west coast road trip and are 1-5 with one game left Seattle.
