NL Recaps – Marlins Defeat Cubs With Carlos Lee Slam

CHICAGO –  Ozzie Guillen returned to Chicago with a new team and a new player. Carlos Lee recently acquired from the Houston Astros, belted a grand slam in a five-run fifth inning to help secure the victory for the Miami Carlos Lee newsMarlins over the Chicago Cubs 9-5 .

The Cubs had been playing well having won 12 of their last 16 games but left 10 men on base, failing to deliver the key hits when they were most needed.

The Cubs did manage 13 hits overall.

Guillen managed the Chicago White Sox for eight years, and left at the end of last season.

The White Sox won the World Series in 2005 and Guillen had a record of 678-617.

Anibal Sanchez  pitched seven strong innings for the Marlins, striking out seven and giving up one earned run.

Milwaukee 3 – St. Louis 2 –  Rickie Weeks homered for the Milwaukee Brewers in support of starter Randy Wolf, and Francisco Rodriguez earned his first save as a Milwaukee closer in a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2.

Ryan Braun had to leave the game in the seventh inning with a strained right abductor muscle.For the Cardinals Matt Holliday was hit by a pitch in the first inning and had to leave the game as well. Randy Wolf pitched into the seventh inning giving up two runs and eight hits while striking out six. He walked one.

Cincinnati 4 – Arizona  0 –  Ryan Ludwick hit a three-run homer in the Cincinnati Reds beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 .  Aroldis Chapman  entered the game in the ninth-inning with two outsand struck out Aaron Hill to record his 14th save of the season.

San Francisco 9 – Atlanta 0Buster Posey drove in five runs with three hits and the San Francisco Giants won their fourth straight game beating the Atlanta Braves 9-0.  Barry Zito combined with George Kontos and  Clay Hensley for the team shut out.

Washington 5 – New York 4 – the Washington Nationals walked off in victory on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th inning to beat the New York Mets 5- 4 . The Mets took the lead with three a three-run ninth only to be tied in the bottom of the frame by the Nationals.  The Mets regained the lead in the 10th inning and Washington scored two in the 10th to in the game
