Jamie Moyer Lands Minor League Deal With Blue Jays

When Jamie Moyer was released on Saturday by the Baltimore Orioles his future plans were tentative at best. However, the Toronto Blue Jays have a need for starting pitching and Moyer signed a minor-league deal with the team. Moyer is expected to report to Triple-A Las Vegas where he is expected to join the rotation.

Moyer started the season with the Colorado Rockies and went 2-5 with a 5.70 ERA in 10 starts before being designated for assignment. He then signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles and pitched effectively for AAA Norfolk, going 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA in three starts.  Moyer  asked for and received his release from the organization on June 23.

The Blue Jays situation presents a better opportunity for Moyer to return to the major leagues as the Blue Jays starting rotation has been hit by injuries. The Blue Jays lost or four starter in two weeks Monday night, when Henderson Alvarez left the game in the sixth inning with right elbow soreness. Brandon Morrow, Kyle Drabek and Drew Hutchison have also been sidelined with varying are issues.
