GAINESVILLE, FL – Jonathan Crawford starting pitcher for the Florida Gators threw a no-hitterto lead the top-seeded Gators past that Bethune Cookman 4-0 in an opening round game of the Gainesville Regional. Even more impressive was that Crawford only used 98 pitches in the game. He struck out five and walked just one. Crawford faced the minimum of 27 batters. after a one-out walk to designated hitter John Welch in the third inning, Gators catcher Mike Zunio throughout Welch as he attempted to steal second base.
Crawford was not even a part of the Gators World Series roster last year. However he has become an integral part of the gators pitching staff this year. Crawford used experience last year as motivation for this season. “It’s not a good feeling being left behind while your team’s going to Omaha, so I just wanted to go out this summer and work really hard and contribute to the team and help them get to Omaha again,” he said. Iinningsn his freshman year he threw a total of 3 2/3. What a difference a year makes combined with a lot of determination.
