Yu Darvish lost for the second time this season in a match-up that featured former Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez. Darvish apologized the Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington.
“I was apologetic because I wasn’t able to go deep in the game as a starter should,” Darvish said. “Overall the approach and the substance of the game … it wasn’t that good.” Washington later blamed Darvish’s command.
What many expected to be a pitching duel with Hernandez, resulted in four innings, five runs, four earned, on just four hits. Darvish walked six. He threw 96 pitches in those four innings.
Hernandez on the other hand shut down the Rangers for seven innings, striking out seven and walking just two.
Hernandez had struggled in recent outings, but seem to find his stride against the powerful Rangers. It was his first victory over the Rangers since the end of 2010 season.
