Yankees Sign Lefty Reliever Matt Thornton

Yankees RumorsThe New York Yankees have reached an agreement with left-handed reliever Matt Thornton on a two-year deal worth $7 million. Thornton replaces Boone Logan in the Yankees bullpen who signed with the Colorado Rockies for three years and $15 million. YES Network analyst Jack Curry first reported the news.

Thornton split time with the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox in 2013 pitching to a 3.74 ERA over 47 1/3 innings of work.

An All-Star in 2010 with the White Sox, Thornton has held lefties to a .233 average and .297 on-base percentage during his career. Righthanders have only hit slightly better against Thornton, posting a .241 average and .324 OBP.

The Yankees have been extremely busy this offseason signing Carlos BeltranBrian McCannJacoby Ellsbury , re-signing Hiroki Kuroda and adding infielders Kelly Johnson , Brendan Ryan, Brian Roberts earlier today and now Thornton to the bullpen.
