Red Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Jose Iglesias and Others

White Sox Trade RumorsThe Boston Red Sox have obtained the front-line pitcher it’s been searching for, acquiring Jake Peavy from the Chicago White Sox for a package centered around Jose Iglesias.

The Detroit Tigers appear to be the team physically acquiring Iglesias, with Avisail Garcia rumored to be heading to the White Sox.

Chicago has been an ultimate seller leading up to the July 31st trade deadline, sitting in dead last and in dire need of a rebuild with an aging core and weak farm system.

Detroit will take Iglesias as an insurance policy for Jhonny Peralta, in the event he is part of the group of suspended players in the Biogenesis investigation.

Peavy, who missed over six weeks before returning on July 20th, started the season as a legitimate ace for Chicago, but has struggled recently, pitching 80 innings and surrendering just 74 hits and a .244 BAA to go with a 4.28 ERA.

Boston will hope he returns to his April form when he comes to the Red Sox, joining Jon Lester at the top of the rotation and joining a formidible 1-2-3 punch in the event Clay Buchholz returns to the rotation healthy. Presently, Buchholz is due back sometime in August.

The Tigers will obtain Iglesias but part with Garcia, who will be headed to Chicago, an outfielder under team control to help fill the void left by trading Alex Rios earlier on Tuesday.

The Red Sox were in a roster crunch with Brandon Snyder and Stephen Drew already on the major league roster and Wes Middlebrooks and Xander Boegarts in the minor leagues. Iglesias, for his part, has performed far better than any of the other three alternatives, hitting .330/.377 and playing excellent defense.
