Marlins Trade Justin Ruggiano to Cubs

Marlins newsThe Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Justin Ruggiano  in a trade with the Miami Marlins for outfielder Brian Bogusevic. In 2013 Ruggiano got regular playing time and hit .222/.298/.396 in 424 at-bats and hit 18 home runs, regressing significantly from his 2012 numbers when he hit .313/.374/.535 with 13 home runs in 288 at-bats.

Over his career Ruggiano vs. LHP: .256/.328/.506 (316 at-bats) and vs. RHP: .249/.308/.393 (591 at-bats). Ruggiano likely find himself in a platoon possibly with Nate Schierholz in right field.  He can however play all three outfield spots and the Cubs are hoping for the 2012 version of Ruggiano.

Bogusevic, will be 30 in February, batted .273/.323/.462 in 155  plate appearances for the Cubs in 2013. He’s a career .236/.313/.370 hitter in 773  plate appearances.  For the Marlins the deal saves some money, but sacrifices some power from the right side.
