Mariners Will Re-Sign Franklin Gutierrez

Seattle Mariners rumorsThe Seattle Mariners have reached an agreement with free-agent outfielder Franklin Gutierrez  and will re-sign the 30-year-old to a one-year deal worth $1 million.

Gutierrez played the last five seasons in Seattle and is a former American League Gold Glove winner, 2010, but has battled injuries over the past three years limiting his production.

The Mariners declined a $7.5 million club option for Gutierrez a few weeks ago so this looks like a bargain.

Gutierrez hit .248 with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs in 41 games last year, but spent most of the season on the disabled list or at Triple-A Tacoma due to hamstring problems. He played just 40 games in 2012 due to two DL stints with a torn pectoral muscle and a concussion.

Seattle recently signed free-agent Corey Hart and traded for Logan Morrison,  both capable outfielders when healthy.   the Mariners are still thought to be interested in pursuing either Nelson Cruz or Shin-Soo-Choo.
