2013 MLB September Call-Ups: New York Yankees Projections

Yankees NewsAs the month of September approaches in the coming days, teams will be allowed to expand their active roster from the typical 25-man to a 40-man roster setup. While contenders are able to garner further talent to bolster their respective lineups and pitching staffs down the stretch, non-contending teams have the prime opportunity to evaluate some of their top prospects.

September will primarily serve as a critical final month for the New York Yankees as they strive to keep a potential postseason run alive, as they currently sit 8 ½ games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East division standings.

As a mediocre season winds down for Triple-A Scranton, the big league club in the Bronx will be able to take advantage of the end of the season for Scranton, as the availability of top prospects will serve as a blessing for a club who will be looking to bolster their roster down the stretch and contend for a postseason berth.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi had this to say last week in regards to the possibility of a potential playoff run: “I think we can make a run, I really do. It’s just the way we’re playing, the way we’ve come from behind. The thing is you can’t have too many slipups. You have to be at the top of your game for the next 37, and then we’ll see where we stand.”

While the Yankees certainly have some catching up to do in the weeks ahead, New York will attempt to put the proper pieces together to make a postseason run a surefire reality.
