Jays Brandon Morrow Placed on DL With Right Forearm Strain

Toronto Blue Jays newsBrandon Morrow‘s struggling season just reached a screeching halt. Morrow, who has battled a history of injuries, was placed on the DL on Sunday with a right forearm strain.

The Blue Jays, who just recently sent down left-handed starter, Ricky Romero, to work out his struggled, has purchased the contract of Ramon Ortiz from AAA Buffalo.

Morrow has shown signs of brilliance throughout his career but has yet to put everything together for a full season. This year, the hard-throwing righty was 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA in 10 starts before being sidelined. Morrow left his most recent start after two innings when he experienced soreness.

Ortiz, at 40-years-old, will make the first start in place of Morrow on Sunday in San Diego. Ortiz is 1-2 with a 5.01 ERA in six games, three of them starts, for the Blue Jays this season.

Following a 17 inning game against the Padres on Friday, the Blue Jays also called up relief pitcher, Mickey Storey. Along with Romero, Chad Jenkins was also sent to Buffalo to make room on both the 40 and 25 man rosters for the Blue Jays.

Morrow is first eligible to return from the DL on June 17th and it is unclear if that is the accurate timetable or if he is due to miss more time.
