Alex Colome Wins Major League Debut For Rays

Rays NewsAlex Colome (1-0) allowed an unearned run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven as the Rays (29-24) won their fifth straight 5-2 and completed a four game sweep of the Miami Marlins in the Citrus Series.

Matt Joyce and James Loney homered to back up the young right-hander. Fernando Rodney pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save in 16 opportunities.

Taking a 3-1 lead into the eighth the Marlins closed the gap on a bases loaded walk issued by Josh Lueke.

After recording the final out of the inning, Ben Zobrist‘s two-run double in the ninth gave the Rays some breathing room and Rodney pitched a perfect ninth

Ricky Nolasco (3-6) gave up three runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings fro Miami. He walked four and struck out five. The Marlins have lost 16 of 18 games.

Colome is a product the Rays Dominican Republic baseball academy and is the nephew of former Rays reliever Jesus Colome.
