Shelby Miller and Cardinals Shut-Out Giants

St. Louis Cardinals The St. Louis Cardinals recorded their ninth shutout of the season to tie the Pittsburgh Pirates for the most in the majors and beat Matt Cain in the San Francisco Giants 8-0.

It was the first game of a split doubleheader after being postponed from Friday.

Rookie Shelby Miller pitched seven shutout innings scattering six hits, walking one and striking out seven and lowered his ERA to 1.82..

Victor Marte and  Keith Butler  finished off the shutout with in any each for the Cardinals.

Cain was hit hard in six innings of work allowing nine hits in seven earned runs.

He did not walk a batter and struck out nine. Cain (4-3) fell to 0-3 at Busch Stadium with an 8.87 ERA in four starts

Tony Cruz had two doubles and two RBI.  Matt Carpenter, Jon JayAllen CraigMatt Adams and Daniel Descalso each had RBI singles.

The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader tonight with Madison Bumgarner pitching for the Giants and Adam Wainwright taking the mound for the Cardinals.
