Tim Lincecum K’s 8 In 8 Shutout Innings

GiantsSan Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum struck out eight batters over eight scoreless innings to lead the Giants past the Brewers 4-1. He allowed one hit over those eight innings.

Brandon Belt hit a three-run homer in the first inning off Donovan Hand (0-4). And Marco Scutaro and Brandon Crawford added three hits apiece to give Lincecum more than enough support.

Making the transition from a power pitcher Lincecum is establishing new identity.

“I think I’m just trying to stay within myself,” Linececum said, adding that he relied on his overhand curve more than he had in any start this year. “I know I’m not going to throw a 95 mph fastball anymore, so why try to throw it? I guess I got to use what I got and get outs.”

Lincecum has a 3.38 ERA in his last 12 starts.

The 29-year-old is nearing the end of two-year, $40.5 million deal and could soon be one of the most unique free-agent cases in recent memory. Lincecum said it’s not something he thinks about.

“I’ve got this year to finish out,” he said. “I’ll worry about later, later.”
