MLB Scores: Tigers Unload on Astros, Giants Walk-Off On Dodgers Again

Detroit Tigers newsMoving to the American League was never going to be easy for the Houston Astros. Houston (8-23) has the worst record in the majors, having lost five in a row and nine of its last 10 games. The young Astros were more like sacrificial lambs as Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers scored 17 runs on 21 hits in a 17-2  win over Houston.

Cabrera tied a career high with six RBI,  on a 4-for-4 That included two home runs.  In his last five games Cabrera is hitting .500.  Torii Hunter had four hits, and Victor Martinez added four RBI.

“I was feeling good out there today,” Cabrera said. “I was swinging the bat good, and when you swing the bat good, good things happen.” You think ?

Max Scherzer (4-0) won his fourth straight to begin the season, allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight in eight innings. Philip Humber (0-6.7.58 ERA) goes to the mound for the Astros Sunday in search of his first win of the season, while Tigers will counter with RHP Justin Verlander, who is 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA.

Cleveland 7 Minnesota 3  Scott Kazmir earned his first victory in three seasons in Cleveland’s 7-3 win against Minnesota.  Nick Swisher and Jason Kipnis homered for Cleveland.

New York 4 Oakland 2 Phil Hughes struck out nine batters over eight innings to lead the Yankees past the Athletics 4-2. Chris Stewart and Lyle Overbay homered  For the Yankees.

 Seattle 8 Toronto 1 Michael Saunders and Dustin Ackley combined to drive in seven runs to lead the Mariners past the Blue Jays 8-1 and R.A Dickey

 Baltimore 5 Los Angeles 4  Steve Pearce‘s RBI single in the 10th lifted the Orioles to a 5-4 win over the Angels.  Manny Machado,  J.J. Hardy  and Nolan Reimold  homered for Baltimore.  Mark Trumbo hit his eighth home run for Los Angeles.

 Kansas City 2 Chicago 0  Jeremy Guthrie tossed his first career shutout to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 2-0  when over the White Sox.

 Texas 5 Boston 1 Craig Gentry  Drove in three runs and Alexi Ogando (3-2) pitched into the seventh inning for his first victory in five starts  to lead the Texas Rangers over the Red Sox 5-1

 National League Scores

 Cincinnati 6 Chicago 4 Jeff Samardzija pitched six effective innings for Chicago after Shin-Soo Choo homered on the first pitch of the game,  but the Cincinnati Reds scored four runs in the eighth inning to beat the Cubs. Alfonso Soriano hit a pair of two-run homers for the Cubs, who have lost four of five.

 St. Louis 7 Milwaukee 6 Jon Jay‘s single in the ninth and a career-high four RBIs lifted the Cardinals to a 7-6 win over the Brewers.

Washington 5 Pittsburgh 4 Stephen Strasburg pitched seven innings and recorded a no-decision, and Ryan Zimmerman scored the go-ahead run in the Nationals’ 5-4 win against the Pirates.  Strasburg allowed four runs and five hits — all of Pittsburgh’s offense coming on two-run homers by Starling Marte and Clint Barmes.

Miami 2 Philadelphia 0 Young Jose Fernandez struck out nine batters and allowed one hit in seven shutout innings as the Marlins beat the Phillies 2-0

Arizona 8 San Diego 1  Patrick Corbin tossed seven innings of one run baseball to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 8-1  victory over the San Diego Padres. Corbin  struck out seven and walked three while lowering his ERA to 1.80

San Francisco 10 Los Angeles 9 Guillermo Quiroz‘s first home run of the season lifted the Giants to a walk-off win in the 10th, their fifth straight victory.  home run came one day after Buster One day after Posey’s walkoff home run in the series opener against the Dodgers

Colorado 9 Tampa Bay 3 Carlos Gonzalez hit a go-ahead homer and rookie Nolan Arenado hit a grand slam in the Rockies’ 9-3 win against the Rays.  Reigning American League Cy Young winner David Price saw his ERA balloon to 6.25 after surrendering nine earned runs to the Rockies
