MLB Scores: Rays Squander Seven Run Lead, Red Sox Rally For Win

Jays NewsThe Toronto Blue Jays rallied from a seven run deficit that was capped when J.P. Arencibia  hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning off Rays closer Fernando Rodney.

The Rays took a 5-0  lead when Evan Longoria in a grand slam in the third inning.  After James Loney doubled to right field Luke Scott homered  to give Tampa Bay a 7-0 lead.

Jeremy Hellickson quickly gave 3 runs back in the top of the fourth when Colby Rasmus homered to center-field, and then Melky Cabrera singled to score Munenori Kawasaki. Mark DeRosa  then added a two-run home run in the sixth.

American League Scores

Boston 5 Minnesota 5 Clay Buchholz allowed four runs and seven hits over six innings while striking out nine and left the game with a  one run deficit.  The Red Sox posted runs in the seventh and eighth inning to  take the lead.

Joel Hanrahan blew the save in the ninth and left the game with an apparent injuryStephen Drew doubled to deep left center to score Jarrod SaltalamacchiaShane Victorino, Drew and Dustin Pedroia had home runs for Boston.

Chicago 2 Kansas City 1 Jordan Danks hit a solo home run in the 11th  and the White Sox came back to beat James Shields and the Kansas City Royals 2-1.

Cleveland 7  Oakland 3 Asdrubal Cabrera hit two homers and Mark Reynolds added a solo shot as the Indians beat the A’s 7-3. Yoenis Cespedes hit his sixth home run of the year.

National League Scores

Atlanta 7 Cincinnati 4 Andrelton Simmons hit two home runs  and had four RBI as the Atlanta Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-4. Paul Maholm  got the win for Atlanta and Craig Kimbrel picked up his 10th save in 12 opportunities.

Philadelphia 6  San Francisco 2 Domonic Brown hit a solo home run and Delmon Young and Jimmy Rollins each added sacrifice flies as the Phillies beat the Giants behind Cliff Lee

Miami 0 San Diego 5 Andrew Cashner pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings and rookie Jedd Gyorko homered to lead the Padres to a 5-0 win.

Arizona 9  Los Angeles 2 Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Ross hit back-to-back home runs to power the Diamondbacks to a 9-2 win over the Dodgers.

Interleague  Scores

Chicago 9  Texas 2  Anthony Rizzo had three hits, four RBIs and his ninth home run, and Starlin Castro scored three runs as the Cubs beat the Rangers 9-2. Scott Feldman tossed seven scoreless innings  against his former team.
