AL Scores: Red Sox Win in 10, Dickey Wins First, Verlander Stifles A’s

Baseball NewsJon Lester and David Price each allowed one earned run in an afternoon contest at Fenway Park,  but it was a  Shane Victorino infield single that scored Jacoby Ellsbury in the 10th inning that was the difference in a 2-1 victory for Boston over Tampa Bay.

Ellsbury singled with one out against Brandon Gomes, stole second and advanced on catcher Jose Lobaton‘s throwing error when the ball deflected off shortstop Yunel Escobar‘s glove and into short right field.

Lester held the Rays to one run on five hits, walked one and struck out five. Price pitched six innings, allowing just the solo homer to David Ross and three other hits while striking out eight and walking four.

 Toronto 3 Kansas City 2  R.A. Dickey allowed one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings Saturday night in the Blue Jays’ 3-2 win over the Kansas City Royals.  HeJames Shields pitched a complete game for the Royals a loss.

 Detroit 7 Oakland 3 Prince Fielder homered for the second straight game, Torii Hunter hit his first clout since joining Detroit to help back Verlander and the Tigers snapped the Oakland Athletics’ nine-game winning streak with a 7-3 Justin Verlander struck out six and walked three in six innings, allowing one run and three hits.

 Baltimore 5 New York 3 Nolan ReimoldRyan Flaherty and Nick Markakis hit solo home runs, sending the Orioles over the Yankees 5-3 Saturday and stopping New York’s four-game winning streak.

 Los Angeles 5 Houston 4 Josh Hamilton hit his first home run for the Angels and Albert Pujols hit a two-run double off Jose Veras with two outs in the ninth inning, helping Los Angeles beat the Houston Astros 5-4 on Saturday night.

Texas 3 Seattle 1  Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre each hit two-out RBI singles to lift the Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Mariners.

New York 4 Minnesota 2  Matt Harvey took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and improved his record to 3-0 with a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. Harvey didn’t allow a hit until Morneau sent a slider clanking high off the pole with two outs in the seventh inning.
